Owner/Operator

Damian Abrahams is the owner and operator of Indigital Media. He is originally from Haida Gwaii, BC and has been living in Amiskwaciwashikan for the better part of 20 years. Damian is a single dad and strives to be the best father he can be. Damian is a 1st generation residential school survivor - both his mother and grandmother attended residential school, and a 60s Scoop survivor - having been apprehended at the age of 2 and spent most of his childhood in the BC foster care system, mainly with non-Indigenous foster parents. As a photographer, Damian has always looked for “the shot” well before he committed to it full time. He told the stories of the world around him with a camera. His first “series” of photos was in 2008 titled “Pain and Wastings” where he took photos in and around the downtown east side of Vancouver - an area notorious for drug addiction.

Indigital Media was born of the pandemic. His normal work as a mental health support in schools had moved to online and he and his team needed to convey mental health tips online and videos was the way to do it. Damian had always wanted to work on videos and film on top of his photography and now he was doing it and this was the first calling he heard to start doing it.

Damian has stories to tell and film is the best way he can do it. In 2021 Damian received the Gil Cardinal Legacy Award to help his work on Indigenous Dads - his first documentary which is available to watch now on Telus Optik TV. That same year he produced Faces of Orange Shirt Day, a documentary on Orange Shirt day where he interviewed residential school survivors as well as the founder of Orange Shirt Day Phyllis Webstad.

Damian continues to tell the stories that have meaning to him but also branches out to other areas of creativity. Every year he does a halloween/horror themed photoshoot in the month of October and often goes on photography walks with his kid where they either have free reign on the shot or have a list of challenges they must do.

Damian loves the creative process from start to finish and looks forward to the start of each project he works on. You can rest assured that your project is in good hands with Damian.
